Bathroom Project Continues
Well, we finally spent some money – just over $600 to be exact. That includes everything needed to complete the project except the drywall & caulking. The shopping trip took about 3 hours, including some very helpful advice from an associate named Patrick at Lowes. He helped us pick out all the plumbing bits that I will need, and explained the process quite well.
Messing up the Bathroom
We had a problem with our bathtub. It’s probably as old as the house (about 18 years), and a crack appeared in the bottom. It is not too noticeable from the tub side, but definitely noticeable from underneath (read ‘dripping water through the downstairs ceiling’). So, the tub had to be replaced. Which includes the surround as well.
Teaching my Boys how to Hide
Our church has an annual ‘Wild Game Supper’ where men bring game that they have harvested for dinner. It is a great time – mostly just men and boys, gun talk, outdoorsey stuff, and FOOD. I’m not much into hunting, mostly because there isn’t enough shooting involved. I do have TWO good hunting stories, and this is really my only chance to tell them since my coworkers have heard them enough by now.
The most interesting thing is a group called ‘Raptors Up Close’ – they practice falconry, and brought some of their birds. There’s nothing like watching a hawk fly 4 feet over the heads of 500 men (with food) to get to its handler at the podium.
There’s also an archery contest for the adults, and a pellet gun competition for the kids. Really a great time for everyone with any outdoor interest.
There is also a camouflage competition.
That’s where I got myself into trouble.
A long lunch examining ancient bible source documents
I recently had the opportunity to see the ‘In the Beginning: Bibles before the year 1000′ exhibit at the Smithsonian. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t what I had hoped to see. It had many very old documents as expected, and information on where, when, and by whom they were found. It also included some very basic info on what was unique or different about each document. I guess I was wanting more detail about who wrote them, and what part they played in our current texts – Oh well, not bad for a purely secular display. They did have some information – more than anywhere else – about a gospel writer called Q. Unfortunately they presented this information as factual instead of the pure speculation that it is.
